Mountford Granary Art School in Tasmania, organised by the Smibert and Mackinnon families since 1990 and open during Autumn of each year, now attracts artists from around the world to intensive courses. These range from those for complete beginners right through to seasoned professionals. (PLEASE GO TO "READ MORE" BELOW, FOR DETAILS.)
The Granary Art School was established to make the Mountford experience more widely available and to offer art classes that aim to be among the best in the world. Since then, Mountford has become well-known to professionals and aspiring artists from all over Australia and overseas. It has been profiled in countless magazine articles, featured on television and used as the setting for two series of best-selling art videos.
Mountford offers seasonal art courses, mostly in watercolour alongside occasional courses, seminars, workshops and tutorials in other media. The Studios are also available for hire by visiting art groups, individual painters and others looking for a unique and stimulating venue.
Listed with the National Estate, the Granary building (1850) has four levels, two of which have been modified - but only slightly - to allow for establishment of work spaces that remain inspirational. It offers the chance to step-back-in-time and enjoy the Mountford experience: heritage, hospitality and art instruction from world-class tutors.
