Tony Smibert's art  includes watercolours inspired by ‘The Golden Age of English Watercolour' (c. 1750 - 1850) and others reflecting the minimalism of Japanese Zen.  In Europe, he exhibits contemporary abstracts  known for their strength and simplicity. His work also includes: works on canvas, high-fashion Japanese kimonos, limited edition prints, documentary production and various projects with leading art institutions.

After more than 40 solo exhibitions he is represented in private, public and corporate collections and now specialises in building collections of specific focus works for collectors.  He is highly recognised for his research into the painting techniques of JMW Turner and currently assists Tate Britain as an visiting artist researcher. He is the author of numerous publications and contributes to magazines including International Artist and Craft Arts International..

‘How to Paint like Turner’ is available from leading bookshops and online.  The new ‘Tate Watercolour Manual: Lessons from the Great Masters’ is completed with publication by Tate now due for Feb/March next year.

The recent lectures, workshops, masterclasses and a professional development seminar at the  Art Gallery of South Australia, National Gallery of Australia, Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery and Australia Watercolour Association in connection with Turner from the Tate: the Making of a Master were all a great success, along with the wonderfully received, Turner and the Sublime: the Performance, with international concert pianist, Ambre Hammond.
